Hello! I'm Allie. I've been teaching the piano for over twenty years, and have had studios in both Rochester, New York and Charleston, South Carolina. I've also been teaching remote lessons for the past few years which means I have students all over the place!
I grew up in Rochester, NY and started taking piano lessons at age 6. My love of music was spurred on by my parents and my very first piano teacher, Mrs. Anderson. She helped me discover my talents and taught me to use them in all sorts of ways, like playing at church, accompanying for school musicals, and playing for my own enjoyment. I was a pretty shy kid, and music became a super important part of my life that helped me find my voice in the world. I continued with piano through high school and college, studying with some wonderful teachers and receiving my music degree from the University of Rochester in 2001. I started teaching in a music studio while I was in college, and I have been teaching ever since! I have accompanied for various choirs and soloists over the years, and I still play at my church. I'm married to Joe, who is a middle school orchestra teacher. So there's lots of music in our house all the time!
I absolutely love music, and I love teaching kids how to play the piano. I have seen music make such a difference in so many students' lives, and it always makes me happy when I see how students from years ago continue to make music as adults. I specialize in teaching elementary-age kids, but love working with students of any age!
When you take lessons from me, you will receive instruction in the fundamentals of note reading and music theory, technique and artistry, ear training and creativity. We will explore all different styles and genres of music together. And we have loads of fun as we do it!
